Showcasing Stretton’s Young Talent
Saturday, January 9th, 2010school’s out @ the arts festival
After our special shows for children last year we are following up with a Youth Performance Project.
This is to involve young people in a four day workshop with experienced young adult actors as coaches in music, dancing and drama. It will be open to those between 7 and 16 years of age. It is to be called school’s out @ the arts festival and it will culminate in a showcase performance as part of the Festival on the evening of Wednesday 4th August, 7.30pm at Church Stretton School.
The workshop will start on Sunday 1st August at Stretton School with participants working each day from 10.00am to 4.00pm in groups of about twelve with five coaches specialising in different aspects of music, drama and dance. The cost of the four day workshop will be £30.
Participants do not need experience or special skills as the coaches are convinced that they can develop some skills and find some parts for all to play in evolving and producing their show.
All the coaches have worked with young people, producing and choreographing a variety of shows. Church Stretton School, St Lawrence’s, Church Preen, Longnor, Rushbury and Wistanstow Schools plus Stretton School of Dance and Drama have kindly agreed to publicise the scheme and they will have application forms when they become available. Application forms will also be posted on this website and they will also be available from Richard Carter (01694 724106).
Applications must be received by 16th April, the end of the Easter school holiday. Places will be limited and allocated on a “first come” basis within age groups to maintain an age balance. Book early; it will be four days of creative fun with the chance to make good friends and develop talents within a team led by experienced young coaches. Participants will end up taking part in some capacity in a showcase performance within the full Arts Festival programme.
